The 1936 model 550 Coronado battery set pictured, like its battery radio counterparts Zenith, Philco, RCA, Emerson, etc., brought, news, information and entertainment into the homes of rural dwellers. Prior to F.D.R. signing the bill creating the Rural Electric Administration in 1935, 90 percent of urban dwellers had electric power while only 10 percent of rural dwellers did.
